Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about Reusable Insulin Pens

Table of Content [Hide]

Situation 1: Insulin pen injection button won't move

Reason 1: Needle blockage or failure of the inner needle of the needle to pierce the rubber membrane of the insulin cartridge

When it comes to insulin pen injection buttons not being pressed, the most common reason is the needle. Many‘sugar lovers’ insulin pen needles are not changed once, but used several times, which can easily lead to needle clogging. There is also a situation where the inner needle of the needle fails to pierce the insulin pen cartridge rubber membrane when replacing the needle with a new one, due to mishandling or the reason for the needle itself, etc. Both of these can prevent the insulin pen injection button from being pressed.

The solution: In the event of a needle-induced inability to press the insulin pen injection button, the insulin pen needle should be replaced with a new one. When installing the needle, keep the needle and insulin pen in the same straight line and tighten the needle clockwise. This avoids bending and breaking of the inner needle, and facilitates the piercing of the rubber membrane of the insulin pen cartridge by the inner needle of the needle.

Reason 2: Running out of insulin in the refill.

After replacing the needle correctly, if the insulin pen injection button still cannot be pressed, you should check the insulin pen cartridge. If the medication in the cartridge has been used up, the insulin pen injection button cannot be pressed.

The solution: That's when it's time for a new insulin refill.
