    Injection Pen Profile

    • The pen injector, referred to as the injection pen, is a medicine and syringe “into one” product, the shape of which resembles a pen, mainly composed of:

      • A pen cap

      • A pen cartridge

      • A syringe barrel

      • A needle

    • Drugs are stored in the pen cartridge, generally used in conjunction with a specific injection pen.

      • The pen cartridge between different manufacturers can not be compatible.

    • The use of the pen cap will be removed, the installation of the injection needle exhaust, adjust the required dose and drive the injection button to achieve and complete the delivery of medicines.

    General Characteristics of Injection Pens

    1. Self-injection is simple, convenient and safe.

    2. Reduce medicines waste with adjustable dosage.

    3. Automatic return to zero after injection (set return to zero beep).

    4. Enlargement of the scale window reduces injection resistance and pain, and improves the user experience.

    • The use of pen injectors for medical use not only enhances patient dependence and reduces the economic burden, but also eases the social pressure of “fewer doctors and more patients”.

    Current Market

    • At present, the commonly used injection pen manufacturers in the domestic market are Novo, Eli Lilly, Sanofi, Bayer, Tonghua Dongbao and other medical device companies.

    • Most of the products are imported or entrusted to foreign countries to design and manufacture.

    • Widely used in the field of self-administration of a wide range of chronic diseases, including:

      • Diabetic medication insulin

      • Growth hormone

      • Osteoporosis therapeutic drugs

      • Polytherapy drugs

      • Anaemia therapeutic drugs

      • Rheumatoid arthritis

      • Other chronic diseases

History of the Development of Injection Pens

    • The injection pen is a new type of self-injection device derived from the traditional disposable syringe, and its development and birth have gone through three stages:

      1. Traditional syringe (bottle + syringe)

      2. Durable injection system (refill + durable injection pen)

      3. Pre-filled injection system (refill, injection pen in one)

    First Stage: Traditional Syringe

    • The traditional syringe first appeared in foreign countries, in the early 1980s, gradually evolved from glass to plastic material.

    • In the late 1980s, the country also began to introduce disposable plastic syringe technology and gradually replaced the glass syringe.

    • Disposable syringes need to be injected by professional caregivers for the patient’s medication, the treatment has a certain limitation.

    • Because of its simple structure, easy operation, low cost and other advantages, it is still widely used in the fields of:

      • Medicine injection

      • Liquid transfer

      • Scientific research

      • Experiment

    Second Stage: Durable Injection System

    • Began in 1985 with the development of the first convenient reusable injection device, the Novo Pen, by Novo.

    • Products such as injection pen needles and refills used in conjunction with it were marketed at the same time.

    Third Stage: Pre-filled Injection System

    • At the end of 1980s, Nuovo developed a new generation of injection device - pre-filled injection pen.

    • Injection device thus stepped into a new stage, pre-filled injection pen is an injection pen and pen core into one product, with:

      • Anti-destructive and anti-counterfeiting

      • Belongs to the disposable medical device products, so also known as the disposable pen injector

    • Its most prominent advantage is “one medicine, one device, special medicine, special quantity, throw away after use”.
