Step 1 Preparation before using the injection pen:

Wash your hands with soap and water. It is very important that your hands and the items you use are clean. Remove the box from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before use to bring it to room temperature. Do not use a microwave or other heating appliance to heat the injection pen.

WARNING: Do not shake the injection pen; this can cause air bubbles to form in the medication.

Place all items you need to use on a clean countertop, such as a clean table or kitchen counter:

1. Injection pen

2. An injection needle suitable for injection pen

3. Alcohol pads

4. A container for handling sharp objects

Step 2 Working with the Injection Pen:

Remove the pen cap.

Wipe the end of the threaded tip (with rubber core inside) with alcohol cotton.

Look carefully at the syringe. Check that the syringe is not cracked, that the solution is clear, and that the medication is free of particles. If the syringe is cracked, or the solution is discolored or cloudy, get a new injection Pen. Make sure the dose display is set to “0”.

Remove a new injection needle. Use the single-use needle provided. Hold the outer needle cap securely.

Check carefully to make sure that the peel-off sealing paper on the outer needle cap is not damaged or loose. Remove the peel-off seal.

NOTE: Do not use the needle if the peel seal paper is damaged or loose. Dispose of it in the sharps disposal container. Use a new needle.

Step 3 Place the needle:

Press the threaded tip of the injection pen into the outer needle cap and turn it clockwise until you feel a slight resistance. Don't set the needle too tightly, or it may be difficult to remove.

Pull the outer needle cap straight off. Set aside for later use.

Do not throw away the outer cap; you will need it to remove the needle from the pen.

Hold the injection pen with the needle facing down. Carefully remove the green inner needle cap, pull it straight off and discard.

WARNING: Do not put the needle back into the green inner needle cover as this may cause a needle stick.

If this is the first time you have used a new injection pen, look carefully at the tip of the needle for small drops of liquid.

If you see small drops of fluid, continue to step 4.

If you do not see a small drop of liquid, you need to do the following:

Gently turn the dose setting knob in a clockwise direction until the dose display reads “25”. If it goes past “25”, you can turn the dose knob back. Hold the syringe pen with the needle facing up.

Flick the syringe.

Press the dose setting knob down as far as it will go. A small drop of liquid will appear at the tip of the needle. The liquid at the tip of the needle is part of the overfilled solution in the injection pen.

Verify that the dose display reads “0”.

If you do not see a small drop of liquid at the tip of the needle, you may need to repeat this step.

Once you see a small drop of liquid at the tip of the needle, proceed to step 4, “Setting the Dose”.

Step 4 Set the dose:

Turn the Dose Setting Knob forward (or clockwise) until your prescribed dose appears in the Dose Display window. Do not push or pull when turning the dose setting knob.

IMPORTANT: To avoid breaking the injection pen, turn only the end of the dose setting knob.

If you turn the knob past the prescribed dose, turn the knob backward (or counterclockwise) to correct the dose.

IMPORTANT: Check that your prescribed dose appears in the Dose Display window and proceed to the next step.

Step 5 Injection Procedure:

Using the Injection Area Chart, select an injection area, such as the upper thighs or abdomen, as prescribed by your physician. Select a different area each day to minimize skin irritation. Clean the injection area (approximately 5 cm x 5 cm) with an alcohol pad. Wait for the alcohol to dry and set the alcohol pad aside.

Check the dose again in the dose display window. If it is not the correct dose, you must adjust the dose by turning the dose setting knob in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.

Give the injection as your doctor or nurse has taught you. Hold the injection pen in one hand and gently squeeze the skin with the other hand so that the injection area is raised.

Insert the needle into the skin at a 90-degree angle and press the injection button down as far as possible. If you do not insert the needle at a 90-degree angle, you may bend the needle.

You must insert the needle into the skin for at least 5 seconds while holding the injection button down to ensure that the full dose is injected. The higher the dose, the longer the injection time. after 5 seconds, press and hold the injection button down while removing the needle.

Release the dose setting knob.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to remove the needle from the skin before releasing the dose setting knob.

When the injection is complete, gently clean the injection area with the clean side of an alcohol pad. You may need to press gently for a few seconds if a small amount of medication has leaked out.

Step 6 After the injection:

After you have completed the injection, you need to make sure that you have injected the full dose. The dose window should show “0”.

If the display reads greater than “0”, this means that the injection pen has been used up and you have not injected the full prescribed dose.

The number shown in the Dose Display window is the dose you still need to inject. If this happens, prepare a new injection pen as demonstrated by your doctor or nurse and adjust the dose to the exact number shown in the empty injection pen dose display window. You are now ready to complete your daily dose.

If you are using a new injection pen for the first time, be sure to check for small drops of liquid.

Please remove the needle after each injection:

Place the outer needle cap on a flat countertop.

Hold the injection pen firmly in one hand and gently place the needle into the outer needle cap. Please be careful not to let the needle prick you.

Continue to push the needle into the cap against the sturdy countertop until you hear a “click”.

Grasp the outer needle cap and unscrew the needle in a counterclockwise direction. Dispose of used needles safely.

Do not use used needles. Do not share needles with others.

Please note that your clinic may provide sharps disposal containers specifically for injection pens. To remove the needle, simply follow the steps indicated on the top of the container.

Recap the injection pen and store it according to the guidelines.

NOTE: Always store the injection pen after removing the needle. Always remove the needle from the syringe pen and then put the cap back on.

IMPORTANT: Always use a new needle for each injection.
